The Reality of Running Away

Are you ready to run away?
Yes, I know. We all hate this question. Prepared kids hate to be asked it several times. Unprepared kids hate to know the answer is no.
But what if you really don't know the answer? Below is a list of questions to ask yourself.

1. Do you have a reason? (physical, sexual, emotional or verbal abuse or neglect)

2. Do you have a plan? The sad truth is that you can't run until you have a plan, even if you have a good reason. A plan includes a place to go, a way to get there, a basic idea of what you'll do for food each day and for shelter each night, and a story to tell anyone who gets suspicious.

3. Are you old enough? Now, I hate to judge by age, and there definitely isn't a time where you are to young to be truly abused. But there is a such thing as being too young for running away to be safe or easy. I recommend being at least ten and looking at least twelve. If you are under 10 or look under 12, you can email me at RunawaysLikeYouBlog@protonmail.com for more advice on how to look older, how to seem like a normal kid, how to blend in, et cetera. In fact, anyone can contact me there about anything.

4. Do you have other options? Running away is a last resort, and always should be viewed as one. Contact the National Runaway Safeline, or NRS, at https://www.nationalrunawaysafeline.org/ to get more answers and be introduced to some alternatives. Thankfully, there usually are some. If there aren't, I will be glad to help.

5. Can I realistically run? Do you actually have a way to get out of the house, get some good distance, and keep yourself alive? Usually getting out and getting far without getting caught are the hardest parts of running away.
